Josie is away and asked me to submit a blog post. How fun to get to do this!
The drawloom group had a special treat in January with a meet up in Pats barn studio on her farm near Esparto. It always feels like an adventure when we meet in Pats barn studio. The combination of driving Yolo County country roads, farm scenery and meeting in a barn studio made for a wonderful outing for all of us.
Pat demonstrated how to weave polychrome satin on her drawloom, you can see from the photos that her loom is a large drawloom with many options for patterning. Polychrome satin is a weaving structure that has been a discussion topic in the Complex Weavers Drawloom group and being able to watch it woven in person was very helpful. Amy Blair just posted a video on this topic in her YouTube Channel, Duelling Rabbits Drawloom Handweaving.
Monica showed us the draft for her latest project, a tree of life. Naoko brought a selection of gorgeous towels she has woven.
We may have a display table of drawloom items for the Open House. This reminds me that Josie has asked me to use this blog space to urge all of you to submit your entries for the Open House. Don’t be shy, visitors love to see all skill levels of woven and spun articles.
If you have not signed up to attend the CNCH conference at Asilomar but want to attend, be sure to go to the CNCH website and sign up as classes and hotel space may be filling up. There is a great line up of classes this year, one of them being a hands on drawloom class taught by Joann Hall, one of only a few drawloom instructors in the US.
