APRIL MEETING: WILD BASKETRY - WONDERFUL PROGRAM

The SWSG April meeting was all about basketry using native California materials. Our presenter was Samantha Iacobello and she was a lively, engaging speaker. She spoke about her projects aimed at restoring our local forests and wetlands..........fascinating. The table was full of baskets made from the different materials she harvests around her Chico area. Willow is her favorite, but she also uses blackberry, plum, apple, grasses. She has a good time experimenting and we had a good time going on her journey with her.

She talked about the searching, harvesting, cutting and curing her basketry materials.

Makes you really appreciate a good basket.

Samatha spoke for about an hour and we broke for snacks and raffle. Then lots of us stayed for a hands on lesson on the beginnings of a basket.

This was our last regular program for the year - May will be our annual potluck. Here are a few photos of the meeting in case you couldnt make it.
