HOT WEAVING ALL ROUND

We started our month with a bang, a buffet and a challenge. The Placer County Fiber Arts Group met on the 4th of July for a noon potluck (featuring no less than Bobbi's HEALTHY HOT DOGS) and a fiber challenge. We had been tasked with weaving something red, white and blue so here are some of our entries:

I think we did pretty well and had lots of fun sharing our projects - along with many that were not red, white and blue.

Next meeting was the SWSG Spinning Group that meets the first Tuesday of each month at Northminster Proesbyterian. We passed out logs for participants in the Tour de Fleece. This is a challenge that parallels the Tour de France. We each set goals and keep track from July 4 to July 27. You can really get into it and follow the Tour de France as you go along. Facebook, Ravelry and many other sites support and encourage you as you spin your way through the hot month of July. At our August meeting, we will award "valuable prizes" to all who joined in.

I decided to spin paper for my Tour de Fleece challenge. I was inspired by an article in Shuttle, Spindle Dyepot. It has been LOTS of fun. I have tried papar bags, tissue paper, crepe paper, paper table cloths, and newspaper. I had a warp on a small loom so tried weaving it and really like the look. What do you think?? Langdon just let me know the next S, S & D has an article about a vest being woven from spun newpaper comics. I am going to try that next.

Next, I attended the SWSG Weaver's Study Group who BLEW ME AWAY with all the Hot Summer Weaving they had accomplished. You would think we would all be too busy traveling or gardening or cooling off to weave much ---- but WRONG-O. There were piles of woven towels and rugs and samplers and curtains. You name it: we wove it.

The fun part is that every one of these weavings has a story. The weavers are taking a workshop, accepting a challenge, expanding their horizons, learning a new technique.

All three of these groups are good for getting your informed and enthused.

Coming up in August, we will be demonstrating at the State Fair. It is FUN! Check out our website for directons on how to volunteer. The Placer group will volunteer in lieu of a meeting : the other 2 groups will meet at their usual time and place.te

Be ready for a fun and full autumn with programs and groups to attend and help you with your craft. We still have a couple of floor looms looking for homes. We still need a person to organize programs for the guild (you would have lots of help and therefore lots of fun).

I am heading to Scotland on Friday and hope to take many pictures of Scottish textiles as I travel. Hopefully my next blog will be about that.
