SWSG is so fortunate to have a really good library of books, magazines, DVD's and equipment. After 17 YEARS!!! YES, 17, the library is moving. Since 2006 our librarians have been Cheryl Sutherland for equipment, Joan VanVelsor for books and Carol Miller for DVD'S. It has been great having them come to our monthly meetings to drop off and pick up books etc. It s been great having the service brought to our doorstep. We thank them
for their 17 years of service.

We have 100's of books, years worth of magazines, DVD's, spinning and weaving equiptment. The full list is on the website under Members Only
OUR NEW LIBRARIAN, LANGDON FAUST

I asked Carol Miller if she would please put together a history of our library. She put together this lovely article and I hope you will all take the time to read through it.
In 1976 Bettie Roth, tired of carrying books back and forth to meetings, convinced American River College to start a textile library, managed and owned by the SWSG. The Library was housed in a classroom. The books and magazines were cataloged by the ARC library and the books were available to students as well as our members. It was difficult to access for us, requiring a parking permit and only being open one afternoon a week. Bettie had a committee of volunteers who helped organize the donations of books that came to her constantly. If it had to do with fiber, she took it. So there were embroidery books and magazines, sewing books, knitting books, lace, and you can imagine what else. She never said no to a donation. Many donated books that were duplicates or of no particular interest to Guild members were sold at Open House and at the May meeting. Bettie continued to be at the Guild meetings with magazines and VHS videos as they came available. Sometime in the early 2000's Renee Tully took over the job of being at the library table at meetings. Bettie continued working with the large collection at ARC until 2006. At that time ARC requested that we remove all of our holdings from their property as they wre planning a complete removation of the Library building.
We had a group of about 6 Guild members who sorted and boxed up the books, purging out everything except weaving, spinning, baskety, dyeing and whatever else directly connected to what we do as a Guild. There were hundreds and hundreds of books purged. Some books were taken to Sacramento City Library for their book sale. Some of the specialty books like crochet or lace went to appropriate guilds. I made up a brochre about the Library which we sent to every college and university and large Guild we could find, asking if they would be willing to take the remainder as a donation. The majority of he books were finally accepted by Pacific Textile Arts in Fort Bragg. Failing to find any volunteers in the Guild to house the remaining, Joan agreed to set up shelves in a spare bedroom of her home. We continued to purge duplicate books, really old books and others that were of no interest to our guld members until we reached the number we now have. Along the way Joan has purchased many current books that have been requested by members. Our video collection has grown considerably as well as magazine subscriptions.
We realized that one person could ot handle all of the magazines and Carol took the videos, storing the items in their homes and managing their use by Guild members. From 2006 until today those three members have managed the Library for the members. We are so grateful to Langdon for allowing us to retire!
Ladies: be sure to check out all of the things our Guild has to offer. Books, Magazines, DVD's equipment.
