SUMMER PROJECTS!!! SUMMER FUN!!!

Lets start our summer blog with some summer fun: this is Bobbi's

"mystery fiber". She told us she rolls her cat's offloading fur into little balls as it sits on her lap. To use them, she created this really cute "picture". That's being resourceful!

Summer is getting heated up now. We were lucky for awhile but now we are going to have to hunker down and endure it. SO....... a perfect time to choose a fun projects and pass our time indoors working on something new and challenging. I'll start with the Loomis group as the cat balls led the way.

Bobbi made a hair barrette at the workshop using knots. The above banana silk was pretty amazing and we were all surprised at how heavy it feels. Claire showed off her own design that she created and sewed. Fantastic.

The challenges for the Loomis group are Red, White and Blue for the July 4 potluck meeting. Check with Bobbi about what you can bring. I started my Red, White and Blue with a different twist: I wanted to use plastic (as I once saw factastic plastic rugs in a Scandanavian shop). So I am cutting up plastic grocery bags - but to get color I went to my "go to place": The Dollar Tree....and got July 4th plastic table clothes.

Loomis group challenges are the Red, White and Blue for July, demonstrating at the State Fair for the August 1 meeting, and "Nature" as a theme for September. Before leaving the Loomis group, Becky became the proud owner of a Union rug loom that she will use for weaving rugs with her beautiful alpaca. Such a fun day! I still have one 4 harness loom looking for a home.

On to many new weaving adventures

On to our SWSG Spinning Group:

Langdon shared a donation of silk and passed samples around so we call could try it. Rita is working on this very cool felted picture. We all shared ideas for what we can spin during Tour de Fleece. I think I am going to spend the month experimenting with spinning with paper as I came across a couple of really good articles about it. Everyone can set their own goals and its a great way to spend the hot July days indoors. We will get more info about Tour de Fleece later in the month.

Our Weavers Study Group has chosen a challenge of wearing something handwoven to our Christmas party. Barb E showed her lovely vest to inspire us:

I had a mini-challenge when Mary suggested we weave these great rosepath rugs she saw on a Scandanavian site:

I have started the blue version on the right for a yoga mat for Carolyn's daughter........meeting challenges all around.
