SWEET PEAS AND OTHER GREAT ADVENTURES

There have been lots of great adventures going on lately so I'll share a few with you today. The first was yesterdays trip to Horton Iris Farm. It is an annual event the SWSG Spinners Group organizes. We had rain, rain, rain ahead of time so we were a little "iffy" about how things would go. But Hortons Iris Farm had us all set up as usual under a tree with plenty of chairs, tables and area to spread out. We had a great crew of hearty spinners and had a wonderful time spinning yarn and tales of adventure. The sun even came out!!!
Adventure #2 was the"road trip" the Loomis group made to Siren Song Mill outside of Grass Valley. Those of us who wound our way up up up to the top of Forever View Lane will tell you it was well worth it. The view was outstanding and the trip up was memorable. Meredith greeted and treated us to a wonderful tour and lesson on milling wool.
We had a great tour and then all headed down the hill to Grass Valley - which is such a lovely town, its worth the trip on its own. Meredith is co-hosting a Wool & Wine Festival along with the Lucchesi Vineyard on May 23. Bring your wheel and enjoy the day on the mountain top. It is worth the drive: fun and unforgettable.
Adventure # 3. Our great April program with Courtney showing us how to used pulled warp to create very unique designs.
This was really an interesting technique and Courtney helped us grasp the idea that it is very similar to tapestry techiques. We all really enjoyed the hands on experience.
Finally I want to mention the guild has received a number of donations that are looking for homes.
The spool rack is large but really cool. The small loom would be easy to move about for workshops. The rug loom would really be fun to own. I am working on getting a warp on it for rag rugs. There is also a second floor loom coming this week. If you could use any of these, the guild is happy to pass them on for a small donation. Make an Offer!!!!
